Previewing their third record Return To Love this week are one of New York’s finest, LVL UP. Signing to the venerable Sub Pop for its release, ‘Pain’ is the first single to be lifted from the new album, and it’s a hugely confident, devastatingly personal offering. At the heart of LVL UP's new single 'Pain' is the powerful line “I hope you grow old and never find love” - a bitter, helpless call for justice, surrounded by razor-sharp 90’s inflected guitar lines and excitable bass turns. As the track builds, LVL UP drift into a no-holds-barred indie rock finale, chock full of huge clattering drums and ferocious guitar riffs. Who knows how the rest of Return To Love will turn out, but this is a colossal, irrepressible statement of intent. -JC
